Newark 4802

Imagine the city of Newark, New Jersey in the postapocalyptic year 4802. Who are the surviving inhabitants? What languages are spoken? How is information stored?

Encouraged and inspired by Swiss designer and animator FRANÇOIS CHALET during his workshop at the HOCHSCHULE FÜR GESTALTUNG KARLSRUHE in the summer of 2006, we assembled a mixed media installation as part of the year-end student exhibition. Obsolete microfiche readers were appropriated as futuristic viewing terminals of artificial intelligence reports written by the Cyphox robots. An audiovisual linguistic analyzer software was installed to allow visitors to interact with a fictitious language spoken by mutant slug people.
